Our Vision

Our vision is to capitalize on the strategic advantages of the Center, i.e. its proximity to Washington, D.C. which make it an ideal meeting place for key influencers such as Members of Congress and their staffs, as well as to horse therapeutic programs in Virginia and nearby Maryland, to learn and exchange ideas. While the Center will not provide clinical therapy, it is situated in an idyllic setting with horses on the property where demonstrations can take place.

We will tap into our vast network of national contacts to convene industry and community leaders with the goal of improving public knowledge and understanding of the healing power of the horse-human connection. Conducting staff retreats, fundraising, seminars, sponsorship events, and horse demonstrations will raise awareness and foster effective partnerships aimed at enhancing the viability and health of the industry. Other events will include V.I.P. film premiers, lectures, and documentaries about the role of horses in helping military veterans on their journey to health and healing.

Our connections to the national media and streaming television worlds will also provide opportunities for public awareness, publicity, and income to the Center and all our affiliates.

Timing

Given the growing and already unacceptable suicide rate among military veterans, especially the Native American population and female soldiers, the timing is critical, with no time for delay.

Non-Profit Status

The Cedarwood Equine Resource Institute is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to the promotion and growth of equine therapy and the collaboration and sharing resources within the equine therapy community nationwide.

Bottom Line

The heart of this Center is the human-to-horse relationship, but the success of this plan and the future of this Center depends on our ability to finance our services to this cause. The plan is to see the Center self-sufficient within six months of operation. Income will be realized by grants, events, demonstrations, horse boarding, modest service fees and donations. It is too early to put realistic dollar figures on monthly expenses or income. Monthly expenses can be minimized at first and allowed to grow only as income increases. Nevertheless, start-ups always cost money.

Cedarwood is a Virginia nonprofit corporation. It is not a 501(c)(3) charity of foundation under the Internal Revenue Code. Our services and facilities are designed to assist the 501(c)(3) charities and foundations we partner with in alignment with their missions.
